StoryMaking is the newest presentation you. Here’s (hopefully!) everything you need to know about whether you should book it (or at least drop a line to find out more 😉 )
This is Sid. Sid’s the StoryParrot, telling people to “tell stories, tell stories, tell stories”! The thing is, Sid’s wrong.
There’s no doubt that stories are an incredibly powerful way of getting your message over and they’ll improve almost any presentation (even the technical ones!) but there’s a science to it.
Don’t think about storytelling. Think about storyusing.
In this presentation we explore the skills of communicating and how to get your message across by finding the right stories -and using them in the right way… deciding what stories to tell, and how to make them useful not just decorative.
What will I get on the day?
You’ll get the StoryMaking keynote. It helps people find, create, collate and prepare stories for presentations, social media, or just about anywhere. Think of it as having two parts:
- there’s an inspirational element (‘cos there’s no point in having tools if you don’t have the urge to use them!) where we’ll look at
- specific tools and techniques used by professional storytellers to make it look effortless – but so impactful at the same time. (Why? Because inspiration without the tools is frustrating, pointless and eventually counter-productive!)
It’s not a talk-of-two halves though… inspiration, stories and tools are woven together to give the best outcome you can hope for.
And you’ll get me for the day of your conference (usually), not just a wham-bam delivery. So if you want me to run something like a breakout session or follow-up ‘hands on, how to’ session we can almost certainly sort something out.
You’ll also get the opportunity to get hold of follow-up materials! Participants can download a customised aide-memoir with your branding alongside mine which gives them all the notes on the presentation that they wish they’d taken but were two engaged to make at the time. 😉 Think of it as a mini-book that they can download.
What will I get after my event? My people want more than a feel-good from the stage
Finally, behind StoryMaking is an in-depth training package that your audience can buy if they want to, as well. I’m working on a hybrid (physical/digital) product that will be available as soon as I’ve finished the beta tests!
How confident can I be about booking you?
What are the logistics?
By default, StoryMaking is about 30 minutes or so. There’s a huge amount of content curated to that duration of course, so it’s easy to expand it if your conference runs sessions of 40 or 45, or 60 minutes! There’s not much point in going below 30 minutes in terms of your value for money and no point at all below 20 minutes in terms of the content I can give the audience. (Hey, I’m good, but I can’t work that particular miracle!)
You can get a PDF of my SpeakerPack here which (I hope!) will answer most of your questions about things like images, marketing and so on.
What's the crack?
I walk the talk, so this isn’t just a teaching session. Not just. There are two strands I weave together:
- the inspiration/motivation to find/use stories
- tools for finding them – and for telling them of course!
There’s almost no point in one without the other. And both, of course, are fun (as well as based on the best current research on how people communicate – I started out as a research scientist after all!).
In a rush? Download the StoryMaking PDF infosheet. Otherwise, take a look at the FAQs.
How did StoryMaking start?
Why is it needed?
Sid the StoryParrot keeps telling people “tell stories”.
Sid gets things wrong. StoryMaking is how to put things right with your marketing. Click on him (or here) to download the StoryMaking PDF infosheet.
You can also get a copy of the speaker pack. Get it here.
What next?
Talk to me. Tell me what you need and I’ll tell you if StoryMaking is right for you. If we’re on the same page after that we can talk about value and logistics. Email is probably easiest for you: simon@presentationgenius.info. Carrier pigeon is a bit slow.
